Kokosing was built on a simple premise: young people should not have to wait until graduate school, a first job, or an invitation from an established institution before they are trusted with serious questions.

We work with students who are curious about technology, education, media, economics, politics, and the changing experience of growing up. Some arrive with research experience. Many do not. What matters more is a willingness to ask good questions, follow evidence where it leads, and revise an argument when it does not survive scrutiny.

Contributors may work on original survey research, investigate a question emerging from an existing dataset, help interpret interviews or open-ended responses, or develop an argument for publication. Depending on the project, that work may become a research note, policy brief, data visualization, essay, op-ed, or contribution to a larger Kokosing report.

We are particularly interested in work that starts from something young people are experiencing but that public discussion has flattened, exaggerated, or failed to understand. AI in the classroom is one example. So are social comparison, economic anxiety, online information, gambling, and the changing expectations young people attach to work and success.

Kokosing provides research and editorial support throughout the process. We help contributors move from an interesting observation to a defensible question, from a dataset to an argument, and from an argument to writing that a reader outside the research team can understand.
