Artificial intelligence is changing how young people imagine work before many of them have entered the workforce.

The public conversation often focuses on which jobs AI will eliminate. We are interested in a different set of questions as well: How does the possibility of automation affect what young people choose to study? Which careers still seem secure? Does access to new technology expand students' sense of possibility, or make the future feel harder to predict?

Kokosing research in this area examines how young people understand AI, employment, education, and economic mobility. We are particularly interested in the gap between technological forecasts made by experts and the decisions students are making in response to those forecasts now.

Our goal is not to predict which professions will exist twenty years from now. It is to understand how expectations about that future are already changing behavior in the present.
